Please state clearly if you need the police, the fire brigade or an ambulance
In the Netherlands, the general practitioner (GP) is the gate-keeper for medical care. GPs make an overview of medical problems and, of course, will refer to a specialist in a hospital if needed. You can regard them as your personal medical advisor for primary health care. You usually have access to a GP the on the same day that you need one.
We are open on Monday to Friday from 8:00-17:00 by appointment. Please contact the nurse (press 2) for questions and to make an appointment.
The office has a registered doktersassistente (doctor’s assistant). She keeps medical secrecy; informs about minor medical issues; does urine and blood pressure checks; conducts ear rinsing, EKG, vaccinations, pregnancy tests; and organises the doctors’ daily office hours.
Always call the doctor's office before 11:00 if you need the doctor to come to your house because you cannot come to the practice. House calls are usually made between 11:00 and 13:00.
Only if you have been prescribed by this doctor's office before, you can use the receptenlijn (prescriptions phone number. Please dial the normal number of your doctor and press 3. Through the automated system, please state your name, address, insurance number, generic name of the medication you need, quantity, the daily use, and the pharmacy you want the prescription sent to. Some medication will not be repeated by this way, for example sleeping pills and strong medication. Please allow one day before medication is ready in the drugstore. If you need a same-day delivery, please consult the nurse (press 2).
When you hear an answering machine
Please call again 30 minutes later if we are not available to pick up the phone. In case of emergency, press 1. During evenings, weekends, holidays and doctor’s training, the practice is closed. Please call back during opening times. If your medical need cannot wait, the answering machine will tell you which general practitioners nearby are available for appointments.
Night and weekend service

Analysis at labs and hospitals
Simple analyses don't take long, usually this takes one or two days depending on the issue. Results are mostly sent by internet, and only through restricted communication between the lab or hospital and the doctor's office.
